Kingo Tatsuno

1854–1919

Born in Karatsu, Hizen Province (now Karatsu, Saga Prefecture). A member of the first graduating class of the architecture department of the Imperial College of Engineering, where he studied under Josiah Conder, he later became a professor there.

His manner of layering bands of white stone over red brick is known as the "Tatsuno style". His works include the Tokyo Station Marunouchi Building and the main building of the Bank of Japan head office.
