Overview
The "Red Brick Office". Meiji neo-Baroque built in the northern land.
The former main building of the Hokkaido Government, completed in 1888 (Meiji 21). It was built of bricks fired in Hokkaido, in an American-influenced neo-Baroque style.
Affectionately known as the "Red Brick Office" (Akarenga Chōsha), it was designated a national Important Cultural Property in 1969.
