Overview

A keep crowned with golden shachihoko, and a palace brought back to life.

The seat of the Owari Tokugawa clan, whose keep was completed around 1612 on the orders of Tokugawa Ieyasu. The keep and the Honmaru Palace were destroyed in air raids in 1945.

The keep's exterior was reconstructed in steel-reinforced concrete in 1959. The Honmaru Palace was reconstructed in timber based on historical records and fully opened to the public in 2018. The castle site is designated a national Special Historic Site.
