Overview
A keep revived through citizens' donations. The pioneer of Shōwa-era reconstructed castle towers.
Osaka Castle, whose construction Toyotomi Hideyoshi began in 1583. The present main tower was rebuilt in steel-reinforced concrete in 1931 (Shōwa 6), funded by donations from the citizens.
It was built on the Tokugawa-period stone walls, modelled on an image of the Toyotomi-period keep. It became a Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 1997, and the castle site is designated a Special Historic Site.
