Curving walls of stacked stone. The stonework of a Ryukyuan gusuku.

The ruins of a gusuku (castle) built on hills in the central part of Okinawa Island. It is said to have been developed in the 15th century by the lord (aji) Gosamaru, and its curving walls of dressed stone survive in good condition.

In 2000 it was inscribed as a World Heritage Site as a component of the "Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu". It is also designated a national Historic Site.
