Overview
An undulating glass curtain wall. One of Japan's largest exhibition spaces, and without a collection of its own.
A national art museum opened in 2007. Designed by Kisho Kurokawa (in association with Nihon Sekkei), its rippling glass curtain wall traces a soft curve across the Roppongi streetscape.
Holding no permanent collection, it is devoted to staging exhibitions and disseminating information. In the vast atrium rise inverted concrete cones, the top of one of which serves as a restaurant.

Kisho Kurokawa
Kisho Kurokawa1934–2007
Born in Aichi Prefecture. In the 1960s he was a core member of the Metabolism movement, gaining international renown through works such as the Nakagin Capsule Tower.
In later years he championed the "philosophy of symbiosis", designing museums, airports and urban plans in Japan and abroad, among them The National Art Center, Tokyo.

Nihon Sekkei
An architectural and engineering firm founded in 1967. Since the dawn of high-rise construction in Japan, it has been involved in numerous large-scale projects.
